After an impressive opening-day victory against QPR and a narrow loss to high-flyers Manchester City last weekend, Bolton look in decent touch as the new season begins to gather pace.
Meanwhile, Macclesfield will be looking to revive their fortunes after an inconsistent set of results has led them to a mediocre start in League Two.
Owen Coyle’s men will obviously come into the game as good favourites, priced at 3/10 to secure the win, with odds of 17/4 on a draw and 8/1 on a Macclesfield win for anyone with a sneaking suspicion of a cup upset.
Bolton are set to make changes and will almost certainly field a weakened team after Coyle expressed his wishes to give his youngsters some game time.
Joe Riley is expected to make his debut and Adam Blakeman could also feature. An ominous prospect for the underdogs could also be the inclusion of recent loan acquisition Tuncay, who may announce his arrival at the Reebok in style after receiving clearance for a work permit.
The Silkmen will be buoyed by their victory over Hull City in the first round, which could well see them in the mood for a further giant killing tonight.
However, if boss Gary Simpson is looking to bring their fans something to cheer about this season, he may well be better served to focus on their league form rather than a cup run.
One glimmer of hope for Macclesfield could be their ability to score goals away from home, with an impressive 4-0 victory against Hereford last week looking good in conjunction with their 2-0 upset at Hull.
This could make a bet on over 3.5 goals to be scored in the match a decent option at 7/5, with Bolton also showing strong attacking credentials by notching
six goals in their opening two league games.
With the Trotters netting all of their goals this season after 40 minutes and Macclesfield only bagging one of their six after the interval, another shrewd bet may be draw/Bolton in the halftime/full-time market.
Priced at 14/5, this could gain any willing punter £95 returns if they choose to use their £25 free bet available to new customers joining bwin.com.
