League One Bournemouth host West Brom in Tuesday night’s Carling Cup second-round fixture, hoping to send the Midlands side crashing out of the competition to lower league opposition for the second season running.
The home side are 333/100 to win the match in 90 minutes, and 31/20 to advance to the next round, while West Brom are at 18/25 to win in normal time and 9/20 to make it through to round three. The draw after 90 minutes is priced at 29/10 with bwin.
Bournemouth have had a mixed start to their season, as a 5-0 win at home to Dagenham and Redbridge in the previous round of this competition was followed by a superb 2-0 victory over early League One favourites Sheffield Wednesday – but three defeats in their other league games means they languish down in 20th place.
West Brom could not have wished for a tougher start and they have been unlucky against both Manchester United and Chelsea in their two opening Premier League fixtures, with late goals denying them a deserved point on both occasions.
This Carling Cup tie may be the springboard they need to get their season underway and boss Roy Hodgson could be using this game to install some confidence back in the camp.
Bournemouth have scored in 18 of their last 19 home games since the turn of the year and it is 3/5 with bwin that both sides score in this match, with the Cherries available at 29/20 to get the first goal.
West Brom were beaten 1-0 away at Championship side Ipswich in this competition last season but in the previous rounds they had won 4-1 at Leicester and 2-0 at Leyton Orient, beating Manchester City 2-1 at the Hawthorns in between.
The Baggies should have enough to win this game, even if Hodgson decides to ring the changes from the defeat at Stamford Bridge, as he now has a strong squad at his disposal.
Although Bournemouth should get on the score sheet, an away win is the most likely result. A 3-1 West Brom win, priced at 11/1 with bwin, looks particularly tempting.
