With the Europa League taking a well earned break this week, football betting fans looking for a Thursday flutter will turn their attention to the Copa del Rey.
While the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid may view Spain’s cup competition as something of an inconvenience, it could provide bwin customers with a chance to make a tidy sum from the comfort of their armchairs.
Here, we take a look at some of the best bets in this evening’s two ties as Atletico Madrid travel to Albacete and Athletic make the trip to Real Oviedo.
Albacete v Atletico Madrid (7.00pm)
Home win: 6/1 Draw: 3/1 Away win: 12/25
Albacete fans will be hoping for an upset here against an ever-unpredictable Atletico Madrid side, but on paper, they have little reason to be optimistic.
After all, Albacete come into the game having won just once in their last seven matches, in contrast to an Atleti side that, apart from a 4-1 mauling at the hands of Real Madrid, have enjoyed decent form of late.
The Madrid side’s last two games have seen them leading 1-0 at half time and you can get odds of 23/10 on the La Liga side taking the same slender advantage into the break here.
Alternatively, you can get odds of 12/5 on Atletico Madrid winning with over 3.5 combined goals being scored. This looks to be a decent play, considering Gregorio Manzano’s men have won 3-1 and 3-2 in their last two league matches.
Meanwhile, if you fancy Albacete to perform well against the Rojiblancos, then betting on the home side to make a positive start and score more goals in the first half than than they do in the second could be one to watch at odds of 31/10.
Real Oviedo v Athletic Bilbao (9.00pm)
Home win: 23/4 Draw: 13/4 Away win: 9/20
Easily the star tie of the round sees Marcelo Bielsa’s Athletic Bilbao come up against arguably one of the form teams in the Segunda B at the moment, Real Oviedo.
Oviedo are currently enjoying a fine run domestically, with five consecutive wins at the Carlos Tartiere stadium. Bilbao have not been too shabby themselves, with recent results including a creditable 2-2 draw against Barcelona at the San Mames.
Bilbao’s last few games in all competitions have been action packed, with Bielsa’s men going in level at 1-1 in four of their last five competitive matches – odds of 27/4 on a repeat here must be worth a look.
Then again, the Basque club have made a habit of drawing at both half time and full time on the road in recent weeks, with three of their last five games ending in draws after the sides initially went in level at half time.
You can get odds of 21/4 on the teams being level at half-time and full-time in what could prove an equally shrewd move for any punters out there.
Alternatively, you may wish to back Oviedo to hold on for a clean sheet against Bilbao. The Segunda B side’s last five wins at home have seen the team keep four clean sheets and they are a very lengthy 11/2 to shut out Bielsa’s attacking stars.
