Shamrock Rovers might go into the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie with Copenhagen as underdogs this evening, but their performance in the first leg has had a significant impact on bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
Ahead of the match in Copenhagen last week, Shamrock were 31/2 outsiders to beat their Danish opponents, with a home win priced at 7/50.
But after a 1-0 defeat, Shamrock’s chances of making it through to the final qualifying round of the Champions League have received a much-needed boost.
Although Copenhagen are still 3/5 favourites to win the match at the Tallaght Stadium, Shamrock odds of 9/2 suggest they are far more likely to win in Dublin than they were in Scandinavia.
However, Shamrock manager Michael O’Neill insists he is not about to change his side’s strategy just because the game hangs in the balance.
As such, Shamrock will attempt to keep things tight at the back to ensure they don’t concede an early goal and leave themselves needing three of their own to progress.
With this in mind, odds of 33/20 on there being no goals in the first half could be a good bet.
That said, Copenhagen manager Roland Nilsson is confident his side will put in an improved performance and make it past Shamrock with something to spare.
After a 2-0 win over Nordsjaelland on Saturday, Copenhagen have now won four of their last five games, scoring at least two goals in all of those matches save for the fixture against Shamrock.
With this in mind, the best bet could be on Copenhagen to win 2-0 at odds of 6/1.
A successful £25 free bet on Copenhagen to beat Shamrock 2-0, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £175.
This would mirror the result from Shamrock’s clash with Italian giants Juventus in the Europa League third qualifying round last year, when Rovers lost 2-0 at home before losing 1-0 in Turin.
Nevertheless, those convinced Shamrock can cause an upset can back the Irish team to make it through to the Champions League play-offs at odds of 7/1.
