Lyon’s record on the road so far this season does not bode well for them ahead of a trip to the Bernabeu tomorrow, where Real Madrid are 1/5 to extend their perfect start to life in Champions League Group D.
The French side have lost their last two away games without scoring a goal and they also drew a blank in their opening Champions League Group D game away to Ajax in September.
Worryingly for Remi Garde’s men, Real Madrid are in imperious form at home, holding Barcelona to a 2-2 draw in the Spanish Super Cup in August before embarking on a four-game winning streak in which they have scored 17 goals.
Included in this sequence is a 3-0 thrashing of Ajax, a result which helped them to top of the Group D table with six points from a possible six.
This helps to explain Real Madrid’s status as 1/5 favourites to win in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with a draw at 11/2 and Lyon success at 11/1.
Lyon do have history of frustrating Real at the Bernabeu having held Los Blancos to draws in the Spanish capital in 2005, 2006 and 2010.
However, with Real in such good goalscoring form and Les Gones struggling on their travels, the most recent result between the two teams in Madrid – 3-0 to Real earlier this year – might be a more accurate indication of how things will go.
With this in mind, a bet on Real to overcome a two-goal handicap and win at odds of 7/5 looks attractive.
A £25 free bet on Real to win by at least three clear goals would return £60, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Another option to consider is betting Gonzalo Higuain to continue his hot streak for Real.
The Argentine has scored hat tricks in his last two outings for Los Merengues and is priced at 2/1 to bag two or more goals tomorrow.
He is also 8/1 to grab at least three for a third successive hat trick.
