Malmo might have secured the upper hand in the first leg of their Champions League third round qualification tie against Rangers, but the Scottish champions are still favourites to win the return match in Sweden this evening.
Rangers are 6/5 to beat Malmo at the Swedbank Stadium, with a win for the home side priced at 2/1.
However, the Swedish side’s 1-0 advantage means they are odds-on to make it through to the Champions League play-offs.
Malmo are 1/2 favourites to progress to the next round, leaving Rangers trailing at 7/5.
Even so, Rangers manager Ally McCoist is confident his team’s Champions League adventure will continue beyond this evening, particularly given their performance on Sunday.
Of their five friendly and two competitive games since McCoist took charge earlier this summer, Rangers have won only two.
As such, they were under huge pressure to get back to winning ways against St Johnstone at the weekend and duly delivered with a 2-0 victory.
McCoist subsequently backed his side to make it two wins out of two against Malmo, particularly as his two first-choice strikers found the back of the net against St Johnstone.
Indeed, he believes the fact Rangers need to score at least twice to progress in normal time could work in their favour as they know what they have to do.
Malmo, by way of contrast, will be unsure whether to go for a second goal or sit back and try and hit Rangers on the break.
With this in mind, a 2-0 win for Rangers could pay dividends, with odds of 9/1 on this scoreline set to offer attractive returns.
A £25 free bet on Rangers to beat Malmo 2-0, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £250.
That said, Rangers’ away record in Europe makes depressing reading, with no wins in their last 12 games.
As such, the best bet might still be on Malmo to get through, with a draw perhaps the most likely outcome at odds of 12/5.
