Manchester United might have been pushed close by Otelul Galati when the two teams met in Bucharest two weeks ago, but odds of 2/25 on a Red Devils victory at Old Trafford suggest three points for the home team is a formality this evening.
While the 2-0 scoreline in favour of United in Romania on matchday three is indicative of a routine victory, Otelul frustrated their more illustrious opponents until the 64th minute, when the deadlock was broken through a Wayne Rooney penalty.
Furthermore, the game was only secured in injury time courtesy of another Rooney penalty.
However, United are likely to find things much easier back at Old Trafford given their strong home record and Otelul’s dislike of playing away.
In a run stretching back to 2005, United have lost just one of their last 33 European games in Manchester.
Meanwhile, Otelul have lost seven of their last 11 European matches on their travels.
As such, a draw is a distant 17/2 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with an Otelul victory priced at 25/1.
There is also a feeling that United’s struggle to overcome their Romanian opponents two weeks ago was more to do with their own lacklustre performance than because of any success Otelul had in stifling the attacking threat posed by Wayne Rooney and co.
But with United far more prolific at home in Europe than they are away – they have scored 11 goals in their last four Champions League home games compared to six in their last four away – they should pose more of a threat this evening.
With Otelul failing to score in two of their group games so far, a big United win to nil therefore looks to be on the cards.
As a result, a bet on a multiple correct scoreline of 4-0, 5-0 or 6-0 looks tempting, particularly as the odds of 13/5 are far more attractive than a United win in the 3Way market (2/25), a United win to nil (9/20) and a United win with over 2.5 combined goals (9/20).
One final bet to consider is on at least three Otelul players receiving a yellow card in the match at 3/4.
Given United’s superiority it is not difficult to envisage the Romanian side having to resort to dubious tactics to stop their hosts from putting too many past them.
Furthermore, Otelul players have received 11 yellow cards in their three Champions League group stage matches so far at an average of over three a game.
A successful £25 free bet on Otelul receiving over 2.5 yellow cards would return £43.75, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
