Man Utd to beat Club Brugge
The Red Devils have started their Premier League campaign in flawless fashion, beating Tottenham and Aston Villa without conceding, but it’s not their form that makes them a staple in any Champions League multiple this evening.
No English outfit has been knocked out in the play-off round since the concept’s 2009/10 inception, a record no elite footballing nation can match.
Just twice, last year and in 2010/11, has a Premier League participant failed to win the first leg of their tie, though both fixtures were away. At home, English sides’ record is flawless.
Lazio to beat Bayer Leverkusen
Stefano Pioli’s men are undefeated in five at home to German sides, while Bayer have failed to prevail in six of seven sojourns to the kingdom of calcio.
Leverkusen were beaten in their two away matches to close the previous season and also failed to score in three of their last four Champions League road games.
Monaco to beat Valencia
Les Rouges et Blancs return to the nation where they recorded their biggest ever Champions League win, beating Deportivo La Coruna 5-0 in the 2005/06 group stage.
That apart, their record in Spain isn’t great, but formidable showings on their travels in the competition last time around will give them confidence ahead of this trip.
En route to the quarter finals, they never leaked more than one goal in any of their five away matches, winning two, at Leverkusen and Arsenal, as well as holding Zenit to a goalless draw.
