Manchester City’s odds of winning the Champions League have drifted to 12/1 with bwin.com after they were handed a tough draw this afternoon in Monaco.
The Citizens, who are making their debut in the competition this year, were placed alongside four-time winners Bayern Munich, Villarreal and Napoli in Group A.
City were always likely to get a tricky group by virtue of only being seeded third, but they would have hoped to have avoided the Italian side or Dortmund, who were the two teams no one wanted to draw from pot four.
Roberto Mancini’s men were previously priced at 23/2 to go all the way to Munich and lift the famous trophy, but football betting fans may now be looking to place their money elsewhere.
Unsurprisingly, Barcelona remain the 37/20 favourites to defend the title they won so impressively at Wembley just three months ago.
The Catalans will have no problem getting through a group featuring AC Milan, BATE Borisov and Czech side Viktoria Plzen, although their two clashes with the Rossoneri will be eagerly anticipated.
New customers who register here and use their free £25 bet on Barcelona to win the Champions League will pocket winnings of £71.25 if they pull it off again this term.
Last year’s beaten finalists Manchester United, previously rated as 8/1 shots to win the Champions League, have shortened to 13/2 after being given a favourable draw in the shape of Benfica, Basel and Romanian minnows Otelul Galati.
In the end, Dortmund were paired with Arsenal in a group completed by Marseille and Olympiakos, with the Gunners still rated as 20/1 shots for the trophy, as they were prior to the draw.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s odds have also drifted as they will face a couple of tricky away fixtures against Leverkusen and Valencia in Group E, which also contains Belgian side Genk.
Football betting fans can back the Blues to go one better than their penalty shoot-out defeat to United in the 2008 final at 10/1, compared to a price of 8/1 earlier today.
The other movement at the top end of the market sees second-favourites Real Madrid lengthen a touch from 7/2 to 71/20, with Bayern out to 12/1 from 11/1 and Dortmund and Porto both drifting from 22/1 to 25/1.
Inter, who lifted the trophy in 2010, shortened slightly from 28/1 to 25/1 after being paired with CSKA Moscow, Lille and Trabzonspor in Group E.
