Dynamo Kiev and Rubin Kazan meet in the first leg of their Champions League qualification third-round tie this evening, with the Ukrainian side favourites to make it through to the play-off round.
Odds of 13/20 are available for Kiev to win at their home ground this evening, while Yuri Semin’s side are priced at 3/5 to move within two matches of the Champions League group stages.
With the Ukrainian Premier League having started earlier this month and the Russian Premier League 17 games in, neither side will be able to use a lack of match sharpness as an excuse.
Both sides are in good form as well, with Dynamo Kiev winning two and drawing one of their first three league matches and Rubin arriving on the back of four wins in their last five.
However, the best measure of the teams’ chances of success could be their meeting in the group stage of the Champions League two years ago, when Kiev beat Rubin 3-1 at home before securing a 0-0 draw at the Tsentralnyi Stadion.
At odds of 25/2, a £25 free bet on Dynamo to repeat their 3-1 success of 2009, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £337.50.
Nevertheless, Dynamo president Igor Surkis is conscious of the threat posed by his side’s opponents, perhaps mindful that it is only two years ago that Rubin secured a 2-1 group stage win over Barcelona at the Nou Camp before holding the reigning European champions to a 0-0 draw in the return fixture.
“There’s no doubt this tie will be extremely hard. Rubin are a good side, one of the best in Russia, and they have a great coach,” he told the Uefa website.
According to Surkis, the Russian side’s strength is their defence, and this is backed up by the fact that they have conceded just 13 goals in their 17 league matches to date.
The best bet given Surkis’ analysis could be on the game to have fewer than 2.5 goals at odds of 31/50.
More optimistic Rubin Kazan football betting fans could back their side at odds of 17/4 to win the game, while a draw is priced at 5/2.
