The climax of the Champions League group stage is upon us and there are still plenty of places in the knockout stage up for grabs. We’ve picked out three games from Tuesday’s action and suggest PSG, Rostov and Napoli are all set to pick up three points. A win treble on all three teams comes out at just over 15/1 if they do the business.
Paris Saint-Germain v Ludogorets
PSG are still reeling from Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Montpellier, the French champions’ heaviest defeat in five years, and will need to pick themselves up if they want to qualify as winners of Group A. Ludogorets, Bulgarian champions for the last five years and currently on a 12-match winning run in the league, took the lead in the first match and in two of their other group games, a statistic which makes the 8/1 on offer for Lead-Lose in the run of play market very interesting.
Defender Maxwell said PSG were made to work hard for their win in Razgrad and with a Europa League place up for grabs, the Bulgarians will be going hell for leather to make sure they get something out of the game. They have scored in three of their five matches so far and held a 2-0 lead against Arsenal so we also like the look of the both teams to score and PSG to win market at 19/10.
PSV Eindhoven v Rostov
PSV need a victory to stay in Europe but their current form is not encouraging, with just one win in their last six games in the Eredivisie. The Dutch team have not won in the group stage and their 2-2 draw with Rostov in September has been their only positive result to date. In that game, PSV twice came from behind to draw which is available at 29/10.
However, the 17/4 on the Russian champions to win is too good to turn down. In an incredibly difficult group, Rostov defeated Bayern Munich 3-2 last time out and were seconds away from getting a draw at Atletico Madrid when Antoine Griezmann struck a late winner. This is a team that destroyed Ajax, six points ahead of PSV in the Dutch table, in the play-off round. PSV will have to take chances at some point and that’s when Rostov can pounce.
Benfica v Napoli
Group B is set for a thrilling climax with two from three teams still in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. Benfica lost their first match in 10 months in the Portuguese top flight at the weekend with a 2-1 defeat at Maritimo and now hold only a two-point lead over nearest rivals Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese giants lost 4-2 in the first match and we expect them to go down again.
Napoli are back in form thanks to the exploits of Lorenzo Insigne, who has scored four goals in as many games. The return of defender Raul Arbiol has been crucial to Napoli conceding just one goal in their last three matches. Benfica have scored in all five group matches and although we expect them to do so again, Napoli should outscore them in Portugal. With that in mind, Napoli to win and both teams to score is an attractive 9/2.
