While Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s sides have not fared too well in Champions League qualifying so far this term, Irish side Shamrock Rovers are heavily fancied to fly the flag in the next round.
Michael O’Neill’s Hoops are one goal to the good following a 1-0 first-leg win over FC Flora Tallinn of Estonia and as such are odds-on to advance to the second round of the competition.
Indeed, bwin prices the Tallaght Stadium outfit at 3/10 to be in the hat for the draw, while the hosts are priced at 11/5 to achieve the feat.
Despite being odds-on to progress, Rovers are seen as the outside bet on the night as the home side offers odds of 7/5 for the win, compared to 37/20 for the away side.
While Shamrock will hope for away goals to help see them through, O’Neill could set his stall out for a draw and odds of 11/5 can be had on the Irish side frustrating the hosts at the A Le Coq Arena.
Another reason for the Hoops’ favourites tag is their form in recent weeks. The win over Flora in the first leg was followed by a 1-0 victory against Drogheda United, which means three wins in five matches for the Dublin-based side.
What’s more, on the occasions when they have won, they have done so without conceding a goal.
By way of contrast, their Champions League rivals have had a tough time of late, winning none of their last five games.
The Estonians have held out for a draw on three occasions during those fixtures, but went down as 1-0 and 3-0 losers in the other two ties.
Such form could tempt a number of football betting enthusiasts to back a final score, with a 1-1 draw available at 33/4.
While this result would see Shamrock progress, a 1-0 win for the Irish giants could attract more of the smart money at 23/4.
bwin has a range of other football bets available on the clash and those expecting Shamrock to get through no matter what could be tempted to back the side to score at any time during the game at odds of 17/50.
Alternatively, punters who feel they will draw a blank are offered a price of 2/1 that O’Neill’s side fail to find the back of the net.
