The opening weekend of the season saw Bayern Munich fall to a shock 1-0 home defeat but a valuable away win over Wolfsburg may have kick-started their season.
Over in Switzerland though, FC Zurich are in the midst of a full-blown crisis. A rare away win over Basle may give Urs Fischer’s side some hope but at 12/1 to win at the Allianz Arena, their chances look slim.
Prior to the Basle win, Zurich had failed to win in three away encounters and they have conceded in every game they have played away from home.
Given Zurich’s fragile defence, odds of 13/4 on more than three goals to be scored in the first half may prove a shrewd move, particularly as Bayern have scored 13 of their last 19 goals in the first half.
And with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery fit to serve striker Mario Gomez, the German giants should have plenty of attacking intent.
Worryingly for the Swiss side, Ivica Olic also has a history of scoring against FC Zurich, having netted for Hamburg in the 2007/2008 Europa League and 3/1 on the Croatian to score the last goal is worth a punt.
Meanwhile, those predicting another defensive blunder from Bayern and keeper Manuel Neuer could consider betting on a 3-1 Bayern win.
At 10/1, this bet could see a new punter take home £275 using bwin’s £25 free bet.
Although FC Zurich will undoubtedly look to keep things tight in the face of the expected Bayern onslaught, a bet of 13/2 for the draw looks a long shot.
That said, with Bayern taking over 180 minutes to register their first league goal, 29/2 on a 0-0 draw might not be as crazy as it seems.
But the attacking talent on display surely points to a Bayern win – and a big one at that.
