Manchester City’s impressive start to the season might have attracted headlines in the UK, but it is unlikely to concern a Bayern Munich side who head into their Champions League Group A fixture against the Citizens as odds-on favourites to pick up all three points.
The German giants are priced at 3/4 to win against Roberto Mancini’s men in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
Odds on a draw are 14/5, leaving Man City as outsiders at 13/4.
The Citizens are unbeaten so far this season, winning six of their eight competitive games to date.
But this record is trumped by Bayern, who, after losing their opening fixture to Borussia Monchengladbach, have won their subsequent nine matches without conceding a goal.
Given Bayern also boast home advantage, this points to a win to nil for Jupp Heynckes’ side at odds of 21/10.
Further pointers towards a Bayern victory include the fact that the four-times Champions League winners have won nine of their 15 home matches against English opposition, with the only exception being a defeat to Norwich in the UEFA Cup in 1993.
However, the fact Man City have scored ten goals away from home in the Premier League already this season, which is more than any other side in the division, suggests Bayern will not have it all their own way.
Add in Man City’s attacking potency and the fact that Bayern’s defensive solidity is only a recent development – they conceded 40 goals in 34 league matches last term – and a bet on the away team to score looks a better bet at odds of 21/50 than the German side winning to nil.
A successful £25 free bet on Man City to score against Bayern Munich would return £35.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
However, this is not to suggest that City will go on to win the match.
With Bayern having scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight fixtures a bet on them to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 looks good value at odds of 7/2.
