Arsenal are strong favourites to win their third match in a row this evening, although the Gunners’ odds of 9/20 for the win are more a reflection of opponents Olympiakos’ poor travelling record than a gulf in class between the two teams.
While Olympiakos are more than capable of matching Europe’s leading teams on home territory – draws against Chelsea and Real Madrid and wins against Werder Bremen and Arsenal in recent years are evidence of this – they are far less competitive on the road.
In their last Champions League campaign, which came in the 2009/10 season, Olympiakos lost two and drew one of their three away group fixtures without scoring a goal, with this sequence including a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
Worryingly for the Greeks, they have lost all nine away games against English opposition and, even more depressingly, have conceded 29 times and scored just once in these matches.
With this in mind, Olympiakos look to have their work cut out just to score at odds of 67/100, never mind secure a draw (17/5) or win (11/2).
Indeed, with Arsenal having kept a clean sheet in their last two Premier League matches at the Emirates Stadium, the best bet could be on the Gunners winning to nil at odds of 27/20.
A successful £25 free bet on Arsenal to secure victory without conceding would return £61.25, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
One other option could be to bet on the Gunners winning a match with more than 2.5 goals.
Arsene Wenger’s side were prolific in the group stage of the Champions League last season, beating Braga, Shakhtar Donetsk and Partizan Belgrade 6-0, 5-1 and 3-1 respectively.
Back them to continue this run at odds of 6/5.
