Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction, betting tips & odds

Kick-off: 1730, 12/11/2022

Stadium: St James’ Park

TV: Sky Sports

The hype around Newcastle has been growing recently, whereas Chelsea have been heavily criticised during a poor run of Premier League results.

However, we feel bookmakers may have overreacted in making the Blues 2/1 underdogs, having won seven of the last eight renewals of this fixture.

We’re keeping faith with the London outfit and rate that price for an away win great value for our first Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction.

Newcastle United Odds

Let’s not take anything away from Newcastle, who have won four straight league games and only dropped two points in seven outings.

Their only defeat this term was a 2-1 stoppage-time loss at Liverpool, they have drawn with both Manchester clubs and beaten Tottenham on the road.

Wednesday’s EFL Cup penalty shoot-out triumph over Crystal Palace helped to maintain the feelgood factor on Tyneside.

That contest attracted a record EFL Cup crowd at St James’ Park of 51,660 and Nick Pope saved three spot-kicks to send the local fans home happy.

A delighted Pope said: “You see the optimism around the club, selling out a third-round cup tie.

“The way the team is playing at the moment, it was important for us to carry our momentum forward and have the next round to look forward to.”

Eddie Howe has done a fine job in kick-starting the Newcastle revolution following significant investment from their new owners.

The Magpies have been firing up front, with Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson in fine form.

However, we just feel United’s big, physical defence may find Chelsea’s pass-and-move style of play difficult to contend with.

Looking at the 17/4 for an away win and both teams to score.

Last Newcastle EPL line-up: Pope, Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn, Murphy, Almiron, Willock, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Wilson.

Chelsea Odds

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 at Manchester City in the EFL Cup and have gone four Premier League matches without a win.

The Blues followed up draws with Brentford and Manchester United by losing to Brighton and Arsenal.

However, there have been Champions League victories over Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb and Graham Potter did not sound like he was feeling the strain in midweek.

He said: “I thought there were quite a few positives. Obviously, we are disappointed with the result, but in terms of how we played, we created some good chances and there was a better structure and a better performance level.

“The team looked closer to what we want it to look like. The boys had great courage and they tried against a top team.

“Their keeper got the man of the match I think, which tells a bit of the story. But overall, I think it was a step forward for us.”

Injuries to Kepa Arrizabalaga, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and N’Golo Kante haven’t helped, but Potter has a squad with strength in depth.

Chelsea can take heart from four straight wins over Newcastle and they would love to boost morale before heading off to the World Cup.

Kai Havertz struck against the Magpies when they last met and has been in solid form this season.

Let’s finish off our Newcastle vs Chelsea betting tips by taking 13/2 for him to break the deadlock at St James’ Park.

Last Chelsea EPL line-up: Mendy, Silva, Chalobah, Azpilicueta, Cucurella, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Mount, Havertz, Aubameyang, Sterling.
