Time to put all that Valentine’s nonsense behind us and get to the real important matters in life – namely, Saturday footy accumulators.
I am here to share with you my picks for this Premier League-less weekend. The FA Cup fifth round rolls into town, and along with some crackers from the Football League, I have a formula that could help replenish the wallet after ‘she’ insisted on going somewhere fancier than the Greasy Spoon.
You could find yourself £315.75 richer if you agree with my picks and use the free £25 bet you get for joining bwin to back them at odds of just under 12/1.
Norwich to beat Leicester @ 83/100
Paul Lambert continues to work wonders at Carrow Road and a passage to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup should be the next tick on an ever increasing achievement list.
The Canaries are third in the Premier League form table, only behind the two Manchester clubs. Fresh off winning their last two home games, Norwich are now just four points away from Champions League hopefuls Liverpool.
Leicester have lost four of their last six away games, and added to the fact that Norwich won the last two meetings between the sides, the 83/100 looks a must have this Saturday.
Southampton to beat Derby County @ 1/2
The Saints have stuttered of late but overall have been near invincible at home this season, winning 12 of the 16 games they have played at St Mary’s in the Championship.
Nigel Adkins’ men lie second behind West Ham after the top two drew 1-1 on Tuesday night. While home form has dipped slightly recently, a goal difference of +21 from their home games alone makes clear their general dominance over visitors.
Derby have lost seven of their 15 away games and have won just one of their last six on the road. Back the Saints to march to another three points.
Charlton to beat Tranmere @ Evens
Top versus bottom in the form table, which seems like a no brainer. The Addicks have won five and drawn one of their last six as they dominate League One, while Rovers have drawn three and lost three.
Charlton have won an impressive 11 of 15 away games this campaign and their visit to Merseyside should bear fruit as Tranmere have won only five of 15 at Prenton Park.
Les Parry’s side started the season well but are on a massive slump now which has seen them edge toward the relegation zone, and Charlton are incredible value at evens to emerge victorious.
Arsenal to beat Sunderland @ 13/10
If you’re like me and you like a bit of excitement in your accumulator, then you might not be able to resist going for the 5:15pm game, just to leave you dangling a little longer.
The Gunners and the Black Cats meet again at the Stadium of Light after a forgettable Premier League tie last weekend, only brought to life by Thierry Henry’s late winner. The impact of that late loss can not to be underestimated.
Sunderland have been in good form under Martin O’Neill, winning four of their last six games, but Arsenal – domestically at least – have the 7-1 mauling of Blackburn fresh in their minds as well as their recent success in the north-east.
This swings the pendulum in Arsenal’s favour for me. Along with their determination to finally win a trophy and the way Sunderland struggled to put away Middlesbrough in round four, I think Wenger’s men at 13/10 round off this accumulator nicely.
